The Story of the Beginning

Once upon a time there was a party.  At this party people were listening to music and talking and playing video games and watching movies and there was a mood of general glee.  Then, out of nowhere, someone whipped out a deck of cards.  "Hey guys!  Lets play some cards!"  Yes, cards would be fun.  It's something that we'd never done before and might be an interesting way to pass the time.  We played cards and good times were had by all.

The next week, there was another party.  At this party, however, there was no playing of video games or talking or music or movies or mood of general glee.  At this party, there was nothing but cards.  But not just any cards.  Bridge.  While the bridge players played their bridge, there were two who sat to the side.  These two lacked the desire to be lame.  They just wanted to be awesome.  And this is how Ben and Pillboy became friends.

Then, one day, Sterling had a party.  It was a good party.  By nightfall, almost everyone had left.  They had better things to do.  Like play bridge.  But Ben and Pillboy didn't have anything better to do.  Also, they didn't have rides home.  So they decided not to desert their host.  And that's when the trouble started.

With nothing else planned, they all hopped in Sterling's car and headed for new horizons.  And by new horizons, I mean the Wal-Mart on the North side.  They walked around for a while until they discovered some party poppers.  And bought all of them.  "What will we do with these party poppers?" was asked by all.  They had no plan and only bought them because it seemed like the thing to do at the time.  So they went to Taco Bell.

Louie worked at Taco Bell.  The trio planned to lure Louie from his post as drive through attendant and into the cold of that January night.  As soon as Louie stepped from the warmth of the Taco Bell, a dozen party poppers were unloaded upon his head.  The attackers ran into the dark, leaving their victim to deal with the pile of stream on his head.

After a stop at the other Wal-Mart, our heroes returned to Sterling's house.  There, they dumped the hundreds of party poppers onto the coffee table and planned their next move.  Unfortunately, they couldn't come up with another plan and so simply unloaded the streamers and gunpowder upon each other.

A while later, during a dull moment, it was suggested that they make a movie.  Pillboy had been planning to make a zombie movie for years, but had never gotten around to it.  Instead of a zombie movie, they decided on a 'slice of life' movie, in the vein of Clerks.  At first, only the ending was certain.  An all party popper battle resulting in everyone's death.  They only needed to find a means to the end.

Louie arrived as the movie was being discussed.  Naturally, he was greeted at the door with party poppers.  But soon there after, a loose plot was formed, interweaving real life and total nonsense.

The original plot revolved around Pillboy.  He, along with the help of his associates, Ben and Sterling, would find things to do and inevitably get into trouble.  This trouble normally ended with Pillboy getting beaten up by a wide variety of characters and inanimate objects.

A great deal of the plot focused on Pillboy's psychotic girlfriend.  Pillboy's Girlfriend, who, even to this day, has no other name, was to be extremely bipolar.  One day, she would screw his brains out, then the next day, she would beat the tar out of him.  And when she wouldn't, her boyfriend would.

Other bits include a young asian boy named Mr. Roboto who would steal Pillboy's bicycle and spats with the "Bridge Fuckers". The "Bridge Fuckers" were, of course, based on the people who left the party in search of card games.

The next morning, the crew that would be known as Poonheads, ran out of party poppers.  Because they had previously cleaned out all the Wal-Marts in town, there was only one place left to get the small explosives:  Party City.  The poppers at Party City were a tad expensive, so they, instead, purchased a four pack of "Disguise Glasses" (you know... those fake noses with the mustache and eyebrows?).  With their new disguises, this League of Super Pimps were able to cruise around town in Louie's black Neon and no one would be the wiser.

The super pimps stopped at a local high school (to terrorize the speech team) and a Game Stop (where they hoped to seduce the hot chick who worked their sometimes) before ending the testosterone induced night of hysteria.  The Beginning of The Beginning had finally ended.

  The Story of the Comic

Before the Poonheads were Poonheads.  Before they were Super Pimps.  Even before they were friends.  There was a comic called Poonheads.

Ben had shown some artistic talent since he was a youth, but had never really thought that his dreams of being a comic artist could ever come true.  Then he stumbled upon The Forge by Greg Dean and was hooked.  He sought out as many webcomics as he could find and at his peak, read 91 of them on a regular basis.

Now, Ben was a lazy man.  With all the webcomics he read, he never really thought he could make his own.  Sure, he dabbled with a few in his younger days, but it seemed like it would take too much time and effort too keep up with anything decent.

Then he saw a comic called The Smartass Chronicles.  This comic used a simplistic art style and had a juvenile sense of humor.  Both could be easily imitated.  So Ben started on a comic of his own and named it after a nonsense word that had been recently created to describe his affinity for a certain orange drink mix.  This comic was called Poonheads.

Like Smartass Chronicles and Real Life... and MacHall... and just about every other webcomic out there, Ben started making comics about the humorous situations that he found himself in while out with friends.  These early comics had nothing in common aside from the characters.  They were written about inside jokes, poorly drawn, and generally not very good.

And to top it off, the people on whom the comic was based became real jerks.  They started playing bridge obsessively and began ignoring Ben.  The ideas and plots that were used in the past wouldn't work now that things were changing.

So the comic was put on hold temporarily.  Until the night of the Super Pimps.

Ben, Pillboy, Sterling, and Louie were coming up with tons of great ideas for the movie.  Ideas that couldn't all be used for the movie.  So, the superfluous ideas were used for comic strips.  The main characters were changed to the characters from the movie.  Poonheads as we know it today was born.

The comic website launched in May 2004. Louie moved away shortly their after, to live with his woman in Nevada. The movie was all but scrapped.  All that remains is a few scenes that were shot during that summer, but will never see the light of day.  When the enthusiasm over the movie ended, so did the enthusiasm for the plot of the movie.

Because the first several comics were created before the launch of the site (and, therefore, before the movie was scrapped), they deal with some of the themes from the movie.  The three main characters were set as Ben, Pillboy and Sterling.  Pillboy's girlfriend was a crazy bitch.  Lots of celebrity guest appearances.  Craziness ensues.  Since you can't start something and change it up three months into it, these things remained as the basic premise of the comic.  Due to this, and the fact that Louie was no longer with us to create the insanity, like in the old days, Louie never appeared in the comic as intended.  The comic soon deviated from it's intended purpose as a side story for the movie and soon became a monster of its own.

The comic employed a unique format with no set number of panels.  The art matured and the writing immatured.  Poonheads enjoyed a steady run for sixty issues.  It lasted more than a year, which is a fine run by webcomic standards.  In the summer of  2005, the artist suffered a nervous breakdown.  He felt that he couldn't keep up the high standards that he had set and didn't want to burden the viewers with crappy, uninspired filler art.

Some time in late 2005, the artist decided to re launch the website with promises of a new, better, Poonheads.  A Poonheads II.  Electric Boogaloo.

  The Story of Poonheads

Poonheads takes place in a town called Poontown, Poontopia.  The place, however, is not important.  What is important, is to understand that in the Poonheads universe (or Pooniverse), anything is possible.  While the people and places can seem familiar, chances are likely that they won't stay that way for long.

Poonheads revolves around three friends:  Ben, Pillboy, and Sterling.  They are called The Poonheads.  The Poonheads spend a great deal of time slacking off and sitting around.  It's not that they're lazy.  It's just that in Poontopia, there's not a lot of stuff to do.  So, they have to create their own fun, in the form of inane creations and harebrained adventures.

The Poonheads run into a wide variety of people in their adventures.  Poontopia is home to many different characters.  Besides the Poonheads, many celebrities call Poontopia home.  There are, however, many relatively normal people, as well.

One character that drops by frequently is Pillboy's Girlfriend.  She doesn't have a name, other than "Pillboy's Girlfriend".  And even that is a stretch. Pillboy's Girlfriend suffers from Bipolar Disorder.  Sometimes she is a complete psycho, and other times a raging nymphomaniac.  Pillboy doesn't much like her, and is only with her because A) the sex is great and B) she won't let go.

In the beginning, things were fairly normal.  Plots involved as they normally would.  With Pillboy getting beat up for doing something or for doing nothing.  The events and characters were relatively believable.  But that all changed.

As soon as the first few celebrities started showing up things got a little weird.  Inanimate objects began animating.  The inhabitants of Poontopia started going crazy.  Life got a little bit stranger.  There were mutants and aliens.  Chinese monks and killer computers.

The Poonheads had a great many bizarre adventures coping with life in Poontopia.  That is... Until the zombies invaded.
