- What is Poonheads?
- Poonheads is an online comic strip about three young men
who find themselves in random, yet hilarious situations.
Originally, Poonheads was based heavily on reality. Comics
became more random as I honed my craft. Poonheads II or
The New Poonheads will expand on this randomness and visual
humor. Also, Poonheads can refer to the creators of said
comic.
- Where do you get all these crazy ideas?
- In the beginning, most of the ideas came from real life
experiences that were modified for presentation purposes.
As time passed, the modifications grew out of control and
became the meat of the comics. More recently, comics are
based on conversations and jokes and are not based on reality
at all. And to be fair, most of the comic ideas come from
the other Poonheads. I just take those ideas and transform
them into humorous comic strips.
- What is Poonheads.com?
- In the beginning, Poonheads.com was the website for our
comic, Poonheads. Currently, this is still the case. Eventually,
Poonheads.com will become a gateway to our collective works.
It is in my plans to expand the scope of this site to not
only house the Poonheads comic, but also my other works,
as well as the works of my friends.
- What do you mean by 'our'?
- The Poonheads and Company. While I own the website and
the domain name, and create the comic, I feel that none
of this would have been possible without my friends. I feel
that this is as much theirs as it is mine. It's ours.
- Who are the Poonheads?
- The Poonheads are an elite group of young men who are
wholly or partly responsible for the chaos you see before
you. Most of the time when we refer to "the Poonheads"
we're referring to Pillboy, Sterling,
and myself. But there is a fourth Poonhead,
who is often overlooked. Louie was there
the night Poonheads was conceived and is just as responsible
as the rest of us.
- Who is the 'company'?
- When I say Poonheads and Company, 'company' refers to
everyone else that has had a significant impact on the comic.
The list is quite expansive, so I won't list them by name.
- Why is it that you are the only Poonhead mentioned by
name in the byline and copyright?
- In the early days of online publication, I deemed it necessary
to include my name in order to preserve a copyright. For
a while, writing was additionally attributed to Pillboy
and Sterling by name at the bottom of each comic. I changed
this because as the strip progressed, many of the ideas
stemmed from my mind and I wanted to further emphasize that
if a problem arose, Pillboy and Sterling were not to blame.
What kind of person would I be if I pulled relatively innocent
people into troubles that I instigated?
- Why are you called the Poonheads?
- Short version: At one point in time, many years ago, I
was drawing an untitled comic strip based on my group of
friends. In need of a title, I turned to a friend who suggested
'Poonheads', which was a word that had been recently created
to accompany our new definition for poon. Due to internal
group politics, people started referring the creators /
main characters of the comic strip as Poonheads in an attempt
to ostracize us. While their plan was ultimately a success,
we refused to let this discourage us and continue to wear
our label with pride.
- Who are you?
- My name is Ben Serrette, though I would prefer that you
simply call me 'Ben'. I am a Visual Arts/MIS/Business student
at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In addition
to drawing these comic strips, I work as a freelance web
designer (though, as of this writing, I have no other web
design projects) and color Jaks
Tales by Chris Paluszek. When not working on my computer,
I enjoy watching TV, playing video games,
failing at
playing the guitar, and sleeping.
- How can I contact you or the other Poonheads?
- You can e-mail me at
. If you wish to address the other Poonheads, I will make
sure that your e-mail is forwarded to the correct person.
